Mid-day meal helpers from various schools gathered at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation on Wednesday to protest against not receiving their regular monthly pay for many months.
The workers staged a demonstration outside the municipal office on Wednesday morning. A delegation of helpers also submitted a written complaint to the corporation officials regarding the issue.
The helpers stated that they are not getting their full monthly pay and are currently receiving only about one-fourth of the amount. They said it is very hard to run their households with such a small amount of money.
They also accused authorities of making them do extra work without any added pay or allowance after the government change. The workers demanded the quick payment of all pending money and regular monthly payments on time as per government rules.
