The Ministry of Home Affairs has extended the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in nine districts and parts of five other districts in Nagaland. The special law will stay in force for six months starting from October 1, 2026. The decision was made after reviewing the law and order situation and reports from security agencies.
The nine districts where the law is extended include Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek, Peren, and Meluri. Along with these, specified areas under 21 police stations in Kohima, Mokokchung, Longleng, Wokha, and Zunheboto districts are also declared as disturbed areas.
The law gives special powers to the armed forces deployed in these disturbed areas. This includes the authority to conduct operations and make arrests without a warrant, along with legal protection for actions taken during duty.
