Meghalaya Police have seized 3,286 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup named Vincof-Plus during a major anti-narcotics operation in the East Jaintia Hills district. The successful crackdown was carried out by local police forces and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force.
Midnight Roadblock and Vehicle Interception
Authorities intercepted two vehicles during a midnight roadblock operation on September 16, 2026. Officers detained two drivers from Cachar, Assam, after finding 2,244 bottles of the contraband hidden beneath commercial freight.
Follow-Up Operation and Seizure Details
A follow-up operation on September 17, 2026, led to the recovery of 1,042 more bottles. These were found inside an abandoned vehicle located in Kuliang village.
Destination and Police Investigation
Police stated that the shipments were bound for Silchar in Assam for black-market retail distribution. Law enforcement officials have impounded all three vehicles and started forensic interrogations to dismantle the trafficking ring.
