Meghalaya High Court Grants Time For Apologies

The Meghalaya High Court has given more time to 19 advocates to submit formal written apologies in a criminal contempt case. This case is about a work boycott by lawyers, which the court called illegal and harmful to justice.

Contempt Notices And Court Hearings

Contempt notices were issued on October 8, 2026, after a strike started on October 1, 2026. Members of the Shillong Bar Association and the High Court of Meghalaya Bar Association went on strike to demand the removal of Advocate General Amit Kumar.

Supreme Court Rules On Lawyer Boycotts

The court cited a Supreme Court judgment stating that lawyers have no legal right to call for boycotts. Such actions stop people from getting justice. The court scheduled the next hearing to check the affidavits.
