Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has stated that there are no plans for an immediate Cabinet expansion. He ruled out giving Cabinet berths to the eight former United Democratic Party MLAs who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Sangma clarified that no discussions have taken place within the government or the ruling coalition regarding this matter.
Sangma dismissed reports that a recent meeting of National People's Party legislators was an emergency response to political changes.
He stated that the meeting was part of routine internal coordination and that all NPP legislators remain fully united.
The Chief Minister also rejected speculation about any rift between the NPP and the BJP or any threat to the stability of the government.
Sangma reaffirmed the NPP's commitment to the National Democratic Alliance across the Northeast region.
He stated that the party remains a committed NDA partner in Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Manipur.
The NPP will continue to support NDA-led governments regardless of individual ministerial positions.
