Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the new Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Nongstoin on October 15, 2026. The facility cost ₹31.05 crore to build and aims to improve regional healthcare outcomes. The project was designed to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the area.
The hospital features an outpatient department, laboratory, emergency unit, and labour room. It also includes an intensive care unit, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and an operation theatre complex.
A PSA oxygen generation plant built at a cost of ₹0.37 crore is also installed at the site. Plans are underway to set up a District Early Intervention Centre for children with developmental delays. IDBI Bank also donated an ambulance to the Health Department under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
Chief Minister Sangma stated that the hospital fulfills a commitment made under the CM Connect program. During the visit, the Chief Minister laid foundation stones for the Golden Jubilee Garden, a new DIET building, and the Sohpian–Nongstoin road.
Meghalaya has achieved a 56 percent reduction in maternal deaths since 2020 through the Safe Motherhood Scheme. Meanwhile, the West Khasi Hills District Administration continues to oversee hospital staffing and addressed past recruitment issues.
