Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma officially inaugurated a new ₹31.05-crore Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Nongstoin on Thursday, October 15, 2026. The new hospital aims to reduce maternal and infant deaths in the West Khasi Hills region.
The newly opened facility includes specialized neonatal care units, modern operating theaters, maternity wards, an outpatient department, a laboratory, an emergency unit, and an intensive care unit.
A PSA oxygen generation plant was also installed at the facility for ₹0.37 crore. The hospital was built following citizen requests made through the official
CM Connect program.
During the inauguration event, the Chief Minister stated that the state has achieved a 56% reduction in maternal deaths since 2020.
This progress is driven by the Chief Minister's Safe Motherhood Scheme. Minister Methodius Dkhar and MLAs Gabriel Wahlang and R.G. Momin also attended the ceremony.
The West Khasi Hills District Administration is currently conducting a formal inquiry into allegations of irregularities in the recruitment of staff nurses for the new facility.
An inquiry committee is reviewing complaints regarding bribery and coercion. Shortlisted candidates were called to provide testimony at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner in October 2026.
