Women in the Matiali block of Jalpaiguri district locked the main gate of the BDO office on Thursday in protest against not receiving funds under the Annapurna scheme.
Several women from the Vidhanagar Gram Panchayat area reached the Matiali BDO office to submit their complaints.
The protesting women alleged they applied for the Annapurna scheme through both online and offline modes, but long time has passed and the money has not reached their bank accounts. They stated that many other people in the same area have already got the benefit of the scheme while they are still deprived. They also complained that their problem was not solved despite visiting the BDO office repeatedly.
Police personnel from the Meteli police station reached the spot after receiving information that women had locked the main gate of the office.
Police officials talked to the protesters and assured them that their problem would be conveyed to higher authorities. After this assurance, the women opened the lock of the office themselves. Protesters warned that if they do not get the pending money of the Annapurna scheme soon, they will be forced to launch a bigger protest.
