Massive Rockfall Blocks Vital Arunachal Highway
A massive rockfall has blocked the important Aalo–Yinkiong Highway in Arunachal Pradesh. Tons of rocks and mud have fallen on the road, stopping all movement of vehicles and heavy trucks carrying essential supplies.
Highway Blocked By Rocks
The heavy landslide has broken safety barriers and crushed a protective shed on the road. Transport convoys carrying winter rations and petroleum supplies are now stuck on both sides of the road block.
Clearing Work Delayed
Teams from the Border Roads Organization have brought heavy machines to clear the road. However, the clearing work has stopped again and again because more rocks keep falling from above.
Travel Advisory Issued
District authorities have told light cars to use narrow unpaved bypass roads instead. Heavy freight trucks cannot use the route until engineers make the mountain slope safe for travel.
