Manipur Worker Found Dead Two Days After River Accident

The body of a 33-year-old daily wage worker was recovered on Saturday, two days after he was swept away by strong water currents in the Churachandpur district of Manipur. The victim, identified as Thangjohnson, a resident of Vengnuam South in New Lamka, was caught in the fast-flowing waters of the Lanva River on Thursday while he was attempting to save construction materials near the riverbank.

Search Operation Conducted by Local Volunteers

Following his disappearance, local volunteers and members of the Joint Philanthropic Organisation (JPO) immediately launched a large-scale search operation. Search teams scoured the river and surrounding banks for two days in an effort to locate him. The search efforts were focused on the areas where he was last seen after being pulled into the water.

Body Recovered Downstream

On Saturday, the body of Thangjohnson was finally spotted and recovered downstream in the Tuitha River. The location of the recovery was in an area situated between Khominthang and Saikot villages. The recovery concluded a two-day search effort for the missing worker. After the necessary legal formalities were completed by the authorities, the body was transported back to his hometown for the final rites.

Funeral Held in New Lamka

Thangjohnson was laid to rest on Saturday evening at the Young Paite Association (YPA) Cemetery in New Lamka. Family members, friends, and local residents attended the service to pay their last respects to the deceased. The community gathered to support the family during the funeral proceedings following the tragic accident.
