Security forces in Manipur have arrested an active member of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) during an operation on the Imphal-Silchar highway. The arrest occurred near the Kaimai area under the jurisdiction of the Kaimai Police Station. The operation was part of a targeted anti-insurgency effort to curb illegal activities along this major transport route.

Details of the Arrest

According to an official police bulletin released on Sunday, the suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Lungthaukhon Panmei. He is a resident of Oinamlong village in the Tamenglong district of Manipur. Security personnel apprehended the individual while he was allegedly collecting illegal extortion money from travelers and vehicles passing through the highway. Items Recovered During Operation

Upon searching the suspect, security forces seized several items used in the alleged illegal collection. These include a Baofeng handheld communication device, seven official-sealed tokens, and 13 receipt memos. All recovered documents were printed with the title Govt. of Republic of Nagaland, along with a sum of ₹2,800 in cash. The possession of these items serves as evidence in the ongoing case against the arrested cadre.

The suspect is currently in police custody following his apprehension by the security forces. He has been handed over to the local police station for formal processing and further investigation. Authorities are now looking into the extent of the extortion network that the suspect was operating along the Manipur highway corridor.
