Security forces in Manipur have arrested an active member of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) during a targeted anti-insurgency operation. The arrest took place along the NH-37 Imphal-Silchar highway within the jurisdiction of the Kaimai Police Station. The individual was identified as 32-year-old Lungthaukhon Panmei, a resident of Oinamlong village in the Tamenglong district of Manipur, as per the official police report released on Sunday.

Details of the Operation

Authorities apprehended the suspect near the Kaimai area while he was allegedly collecting illegal money from travelers and vehicles passing through the national highway. During the search, security personnel recovered several items from his possession, including a Baofeng handheld communication device, seven official-sealed tokens, and 13 receipt memos marked with the name Govt. of Republic of Nagaland. Additionally, officials seized ₹2,800 in cash that was allegedly collected through extortion.

Following the arrest, the suspect was taken into custody by the security forces. He has been handed over to the local police station for formal processing and further legal action. Authorities are currently conducting a detailed investigation into the extortion network that has been operating along this highway corridor to identify other individuals involved in these illegal activities.
