Manipur Security Forces Arrest Wanted KCP Militant

Security forces in Imphal have arrested a 28-year-old active member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba) following reports of illegal extortion activities. The operation took place on Monday, August 3, 2026, in the Khongman Zone V East area under the Irilbung Police Station jurisdiction.
Details of the Arrest
The arrested individual has been identified as Joyson Khangembam, who also uses the aliases Loyumba and Tondonba. Official sources confirmed that the suspect was actively involved in illegal extortion targeting local residents and various commercial establishments in the region. Security forces successfully apprehended him as part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the Imphal East district.
Previous Criminal Record
This incident marks the second time the suspect has been taken into custody for similar offenses. He was previously arrested on May 6, 2025, under the name Khangembam Joyson Meitei for allegedly extorting money from educational institutions in the Imphal area. During that earlier police operation, authorities had seized a mobile phone and a two-wheeler from his possession.
Current Legal Proceedings
Following his recent apprehension, Khangembam was handed over to the local police station for formal processing. A case has been registered against him, and security agencies are now conducting further interrogations. The investigation aims to uncover his criminal network, trace extortion funds, and identify other associates currently operating in the area. The suspect remains in police custody as the legal process continues.
