Manipur Police Step Up Security After Clashes And Blasts

Manipur police have stepped up intelligence-based operations following a wave of violence that left four people dead and multiple individuals injured across the state. State police detailed a series of violent incidents including communal clashes, an IED blast, and an armed ambush on villagers.

Details of Violence in Thoubal and Imphal

A late-night clash erupted between two communities in Thoubal district following a stone-pelting incident during a musical night. The confrontation resulted in gunfire and one individual succumbed to bullet injuries at Raj Medicity while several others were injured. Additional central and state forces were rushed to the area to bring the situation under control. Shortly after, an IED detonated in Imphal West near the Singjamai police station, seriously injuring three CRPF personnel who were subsequently hospitalised.

Ambush in Imphal East and Security Response

Unidentified armed militants opened fire on a group of Meitei villagers who were cutting and transporting firewood in Imphal East. The gunfire resulted in three fatalities on the spot and multiple injuries, with the injured being evacuated for medical treatment. To restore order, multi-agency security grids have been heavily reinforced across vulnerable districts using aerial surveillance, specialized tracking units, and joint patrols. Manipur Chief Minister chaired a security meeting along with the Home Minister to review the overall security situation and directed officials to strengthen security measures in vulnerable areas.
