Manipur Police have arrested three active members of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) following a targeted operation in the Imphal West district. Authorities recovered live explosives during the arrests, which were made on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Arrest in Imphal West

Police conducted a specific operation in the Thangmeiband Khuyathong Polem Leikai area, where they apprehended 26-year-old Thokchom Sanju Meitei, also known as Luwang. Meitei is a resident of Langmeidong Mamang Leikai in the Kakching district. Security personnel seized two live hand grenades from his possession during the search. Police sources state that the suspect was allegedly involved in planting hand grenades at various locations across Imphal. He is now in police custody, and a formal case has been registered to investigate his network and recent activities.

Two Additional Cadres Apprehended

Following the arrest of Meitei, security forces continued their operation and captured two more active RPF/PLA members. The individuals have been identified as 41-year-old Ngangbam Nanao Singh from Wangoo Ahallup Sanasam Leikai in the Bishnupur district and 24-year-old Wahengbam Mayday Singh, also known as Loya, from Awangkhunou Lamkhai under the Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West. All three arrested individuals and the recovered materials were handed over to the local police stations for further legal proceedings. Authorities are currently working to determine the full extent of the group's activities and their handlers in the region as part of ongoing Northeast Updates.
