Manipur Police Arrest RPF PLA Cadre and Seize Grenades

Manipur Police arrested a 26-year-old active cadre of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) in the Imphal West district on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. The individual, identified as Thokchom Sanju Meitei, was taken into custody during a targeted security operation in the Thangmeiband Khuyathong Polem Leikai area.
Details of the Arrest and Seizure
Police personnel seized two live hand grenades from the possession of the suspect during the operation. Authorities stated that Meitei, also known as Luwang, is a resident of Langmeidong Mamang Leikai in the Kakching district. The police have registered a formal case to investigate his network, his handlers, and his involvement in planting hand grenades at various locations across the city based on reports from Manipur Police sources.
Recent Security Operations in Imphal Valley
Following the arrest of Meitei, security forces conducted further operations in the region. On Friday, August 7, 2026, four militants from two different banned outfits were apprehended across two districts in the Imphal Valley for their alleged involvement in extortion activities. Among those detained were SOREPA cadres Mayanglambam Nimaichand, Mayanglambam Khoiraba, and Md Majahar Ali.
Weapons Recovered by Security Forces
In a separate action on the same day, a 25-year-old cadre of the People's Liberation Army named Pheiroijam Karanjoy Singh was arrested in the Imphal East district. During this search, authorities recovered a hand grenade, an empty INSAS rifle magazine, and three empty rifle cartridge cases from the residence of the accused. These incidents highlight the ongoing security challenges currently being managed by the authorities in the state.
