Manipur Police Arrest Man Over Morphing Official Photos

The Cyber Crime Police Station in Manipur arrested 50-year-old Laishram Mangibabu Singh on August 10, 2026, for allegedly uploading and circulating digitally altered, objectionable content on social media. The investigation centers on a morphed image featuring Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, which was shared on Facebook with a derogatory caption in Meiteilon.

Details of the Arrest

Police identified the accused through routine monitoring of social media platforms. Officers seized his mobile phone and SIM card during his arrest at his residence located in Moirang Khunou Mamang Sabal. Following the arrest, the police took the suspect into custody for further legal processing.

Court Proceedings and Bail

After his arrest, Singh was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Imphal West. Although the prosecution requested police custody to investigate potential co-conspirators and the software used, the court granted the accused bail. The court released the accused upon the execution of a PR bond and surety bond of ₹50,000 each, as the charges under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita are bailable.
