Manipur Jiribam Khongsang Rail Line Services Resume

Train services on the Jiribam-Khongsang rail line in Manipur started again on July 31, 2026, following a break of nearly three years, as reported by Indian Railways officials. This route serves as the first active section of the larger Jiribam-Imphal railway project managed by the Northeast Frontier Railway. The resumption of these train services helps improve local travel and transport connectivity within the region.

Route Features and Engineering

The railway line passes through dense forests, deep tunnels, and over high bridges set among green mountains. Travelers on this route can see the natural landscape of Northeast India while experiencing the infrastructure built by the railway department. This project highlights the engineering work being done to connect remote areas to the national transport network.

Future Expansion Plans

The full Jiribam-Imphal project is expected to be finished by the end of 2028, which will link the capital city of Imphal to the rest of the country by train. Specific parts of the project have set completion dates to track progress. The 9.15-kilometer Awangkhul-Noney section is scheduled for completion by March 2027, while the 37.02-kilometer Noney-Imphal section is expected to be finished by March 2028.
