The central government has extended the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in most parts of Manipur for another six months starting October 1. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order stating that the entire state, except for specific areas, is declared a disturbed area.
Thirteen police stations across five districts are excluded from this order. These police stations are Imphal, Lamphel, City, Singjamei, Patsoi, Wangor, Porompat, Heingang, Irilbung, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Nambol, and Kakching. These areas fall under the Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts.
Officials noted that the state continues to experience heightened tensions due to ongoing ethnic violence and insurgent activities. Intermittent gunfire continues in fringe areas between Bishnupur and Churachandpur, as well as Imphal East, Kangpokpi, Imphal West, and Jiribam districts. The extension aims to enable coordinated operations by security forces to stabilize the region. The order will remain in force until March 31, 2027, unless withdrawn earlier.
