Mangan Chungthang Road Partly Open After Major Landslides

Road connectivity in North Sikkim has partially improved after major landslides blocked travel. The Mangan to Chungthang road via Toong Naga is now open for light vehicles. According to the Mangan District Administrative Centre, this update was issued as of September 18, 2026.

Alternative Routes and Current Status

Several alternative routes are currently operational for travelers in the region. These include the route from Mangan to Chungthang via Phidang-Sankalang and the Sangkalang-Shipgyer road. These updates follow widespread disruptions caused by heavy rainfall over two days that triggered landslides across all five districts of Sikkim as reported by UNI.
