Mamata Banerjee Assures Support After Attack on CJP Member

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has assured support to the family of Abdul Hafiz, a CJP member, following an alleged attack on his home in Bankura district. The incident, which occurred in Karishunda village under the Indas police station area, has led to significant political tension in the region.
Details of the Attack and Investigation
It is alleged that individuals supported by the BJP attacked the home of Abdul Hafiz on the night of August 14. During the incident, Abdul was assaulted, and his father, 51-year-old Sheikh Mohammad Mafik, was also attacked while trying to protect his son. Sheikh Mohammad Mafik later died due to the injuries sustained during the assault. The incident has sparked a series of political accusations between opposing parties, with authorities promising strict legal action against those responsible for the violence.
Communication and Assurances from Leadership
On Monday morning, Mamata Banerjee contacted Abdul Hafiz over the phone to discuss the incident and offer her support. During the conversation, she assured the family that the state government would provide all necessary assistance. She instructed the family to provide copies of the police complaint and the post-mortem report to her office within a few days. Additionally, a delegation from the Trinamool Congress visited the family home to provide further support and contact information for Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen.
Background of the Conflict
Abdul Hafiz is actively involved in the CJP school improvement campaign. He had recently visited a local primary school to inspect the condition of its infrastructure. It is alleged that the attack on his residence was a direct result of him raising questions about the poor state of the school. Abdul reported that the attackers also stole his mobile phone during the incident. The local Superintendent of Police has since contacted him to obtain the mobile device's IMEI number to assist in the investigation and recovery efforts.
