Police in Malda district arrested the husband of a woman who died by suicide after finding that his claim about the Annapurna scheme was false. The 32-year-old woman named Anita Khatun hanged herself at her home in Gazole on Saturday morning.
Anita Khatun died by suicide in the jurisdiction of the Gazole police station.
Relatives and local panchayat members initially claimed that she was upset because she did not receive Annapurna scheme money for three months.
They stated that an argument over the application form led to her taking this extreme step.
District Superintendent of Police Anupam Singh announced the arrest of the victim's husband, Injamamul Haq.
Police registered a case based on a written complaint from the victim's brother, Anisurul Alam.
Injamamul Haq was produced in the Malda court on Sunday and sent to six days of police custody.
Investigators stated that the husband fabricated the scheme story to hide his own role in domestic violence and abetment to suicide.
