Malbazar Municipality Chairman Utpal Bhaduri Resigns

Utpal Bhaduri, the Chairman of Malbazar Municipality and a Trinamool Congress leader, has resigned from his post on Thursday. He submitted his resignation letter to the executive officer and the SDO office, calling it a personal decision. This development in the 15-member board has created significant discussion in the region.

Resignation Process and Political Background

Utpal Bhaduri was first elected as a councillor in the year 2009 and later served as the vice-chairman and chairman. The municipality has faced various challenges, including legal disputes, court directions, and the formation of an SIT from the tenure of former chairman Swapan Saha. Additionally, financial pressure regarding the salary and bonus payments of municipal workers and temporary staff ahead of Durga Puja was noted.

Reactions from Opposition

Sushant Saha, the lone BJP councillor of Malbazar Municipality, claimed that the chairman resigned due to a lack of funds and the inability to handle pending salary and bonus issues for workers before the puja. Reports also indicate that some councillors recently joined the Congress party, and public services have been affected due to the imprisonment of several municipal employees and a former chairman.
