Indian boxer and Asian Games gold medallist Lovlina Borgohain paid tribute to veteran actor Nana Patekar, who died at the age of 75 on Thursday. Patekar passed away after suffering a severe cardiac arrest in Goa. He was taken to Manipal Hospital, where doctors tried to revive him, but he could not be saved. Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, confirmed the news to ANI.
Borgohain said her dream of meeting the actor remained unfulfilled and described his death as a huge loss to the Indian film industry. Speaking in her hometown of Bokakhat during a felicitation ceremony following her gold medal win at the Asian Games, she recalled her childhood admiration for him. She noted that his unique style made him special and called his passing bad news for the entire country.
Borgohain recently won the gold medal in the women 75 kg final at the Asian Games by defeating China's Bao Ziyi 5-0. Following her victory, she thanked the people of Assam for their warm welcome and love. She also encouraged young players to work hard to make Assam and the country proud.
