Wild Leopard Tranquilized After Attacking Laborer in Assam

An adult male leopard strayed into a private cowshed in the Panikhaiti village area on the outskirts of the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary, resulting in a violent confrontation. The leopard attacked a local farm laborer, inflicting deep claw and puncture wounds on the shoulder and torso. The worker alerted neighbors, who arrived with bamboo poles and torches, forcing the animal to retreat into a dark storage outhouse.

Wildlife Team Rescues Animal

Following a standoff that lasted several hours, a specialized veterinary wildlife team from the Assam State Zoo arrived at the scene. The team utilized darting gear to tranquilize the leopard through a cracked ventilation window in the outhouse. Once sedated, the animal was secured on a stretcher and transported to the state zoo hospital for observation ahead of a planned release into a deep reserve canopy.

Medical Care for Injured Worker

The injured farm laborer was subsequently transferred to a nearby civil medical facility to receive trauma care.
