Landslide Causes Damage to Houses and Livestock in Goke

Heavy and continuous rainfall has caused a major landslide in the Goke-2 Gram Panchayat area under the Pulbazar block of Darjeeling district. The landslide occurred in the Kam Basti area, leading to significant property damage and the loss of livestock for a local family. As a result of the incident, the affected family has been forced to move to a safer location.

Impact on Local Residents and Livestock

According to the reports, the landslide took place near the residence of a local resident named Kamleshwar Pradhan. The incident resulted in the death of one cow, one calf, and two goats owned by the family. In addition to the loss of livestock, the family home is currently facing structural risks due to the unstable land. Furthermore, more than one acre of agricultural land belonging to the family has been severely damaged by the sliding debris.

Official Inspection and Assessment

Following the incident, local officials and representatives visited the site to assess the extent of the damage. The inspection team included Goke-2 Gram Panchayat Pradhan Endup Lepcha, the local ward member, and Uttamdeep Pradhan from the Pulbazar block animal husbandry department. Dipen Koirala, the General Secretary of the BJP Pul-Bijaynagar Goke Mandal, was also present during the site visit. These officials examined the affected area to determine the impact of the landslide on the local community and the immediate needs of the displaced family.
