Land Dispute Triggers Tension in Islampur Village

A dispute over ancestral land ownership caused tension in Baragach village under the Islampur block of North Dinajpur district on Wednesday. Local police from the Ramganj outpost arrived at the scene to manage the situation and restore order between the two involved parties.

Conflict over land possession

The incident began when a woman named Dulari Begum attempted to take possession of a piece of land, citing a civil court order. She claims that the land records and lease documents are registered in her father’s name. According to her, following her father's death, several local individuals began laying claims to approximately two to 15 kathas of the property. Dulari Begum alleges that she was prevented from farming on the land and received threats despite having a court order in her favor.

Response from the opposing party

The other party involved, identified as Papul Alam, has denied all allegations made against them. He stated that the issue is not related to illegal land grabbing as claimed. Papul Alam further alleged that the police attempted to take action against the court order and confirmed that they plan to submit a formal written complaint to the Superintendent of Police regarding the matter.

Current situation in the village

Following the confrontation and reports of scuffles between the two groups, the Ramganj police team intervened to prevent further escalation. The situation in the village is currently reported as normal under police presence, and officials have initiated an investigation into the dispute.
