Land Dispute Causes Firing Incident in Assam Border Area

Tensions rose on Monday, August 10, in Mingmang Basti under the Gogamukh Revenue Circle of Dhemaji district following a land encroachment dispute that led to a clash and gunfire. Several local residents were injured during the incident and were moved from Gogamukh Rural Hospital to Dhemaji Civil Hospital and the Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh for medical care.

Government Response and Security Measures

The Assam government has started high-level talks with officials from Arunachal Pradesh to address the conflict. Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, the Chief Secretary, and DGP GP Singh are coordinating with their counterparts to manage the situation. To maintain law and order and stop further trouble, additional police forces have been sent to the Gogamukh and Gerukamukh regions.

Official Status of the Incident

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the event is a localized land dispute and not a systemic conflict between states. Authorities are currently working on a joint probe to restore peace and normalcy in the affected border areas.
