Kolkata Seals Six Guest Houses Over Fire Safety

Kolkata sealed six guest houses on Marquis Street after inspections revealed severe violations of fire safety rules. State Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul visited the area on Saturday to check fire safety arrangements and ordered the immediate shutdown of these properties.

Action Taken Due To Missing Fire Licenses

The guest houses failed to apply for fire safety licenses, prompting authorities to take strict action. Officials cut off the electricity supply to all six properties, which each contained around six to seven rooms that currently held staying guests.

Crackdown Follows Major Hotel Fire

This inspection is part of an ongoing safety crackdown following a severe fire at the Shikha-In hotel in the New Market area late Tuesday night. That tragic incident resulted in nine deaths, including seven Bangladeshi nationals, leading the administration to intensify checks across city hotels and guest houses.
