Kolkata historical Kumartuli Ghat is getting a complete makeover before the upcoming Durga Puja festival. The beautification work is moving at a fast pace to make Kumartuli a major heritage tourism center, as many tourists visit this place from across the country and the world.
A 300-meter stretch of the Hooghly river from Kumartuli to Champatala Ghat is being developed with a cost of about 10 crore rupees. This project is a joint effort by the
Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited.
The new ghat is likely to be opened on September 24 in a major event. The state tourism department is making a master plan to give better facilities to visitors and protect the historical identity of the area. This development will also help local artisans and boost tourism business.
