Kolkata Hotel Fire Claims Four Members Of Bangladeshi Family

A devastating fire at a hotel on Mirza Ghalib Street in Kolkata has resulted in the death of nine people, including a journalist from Bangladesh and three members of his family. The incident occurred on Tuesday night due to heavy smoke inhalation.
Details of the victims
The deceased family members have been identified as 37-year-old journalist Debashish Dutta, his 25-year-old wife Afsana Shirmin, their three-year-old son Swarnashish Dutta, and his father-in-law Akram Ali. Debashish Dutta was a journalist who worked for various media outlets in Bangladesh. The family had arrived in Kolkata from Bengaluru on Tuesday and were staying at Hotel Shikha Inn.
Official response and investigation
Local police have confirmed that nine people died in the fire, with five of them identified as Bangladeshi citizens. One victim has been confirmed as an Indian citizen, while the identification of the others is ongoing. According to the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata, officials are coordinating with local authorities to provide medical assistance to the injured and are making arrangements to return the bodies of the deceased to Bangladesh. Six people who were injured in the incident were discharged from the hospital after receiving primary treatment.
