Kolkata Customs Seizes Foreign Currency Worth Over 1 Crore

The Air Intelligence Unit of Kolkata Customs intercepted two Indian passengers carrying foreign currency at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on August 19, 2026. The passengers were scheduled to board a flight from Kolkata to Bangkok when authorities discovered the cash during a baggage search.

Details of the Seizure

Authorities found USD 1,30,000 in the possession of the two travelers. The total value of the seized foreign currency is estimated to be ₹1,22,59,000. Following this discovery, both the passengers and the currency were detained under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.

Ongoing Investigation

This enforcement action was conducted by Kolkata Customs, which operates under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). The agency confirmed that the incident is currently under further investigation as part of ongoing surveillance operations to ensure compliance with foreign exchange regulations.
