A speeding car crashed into the guard wall of Fort William's Vijay Dwar on Red Road in Kolkata on Friday morning. The collision was so powerful that a large part of the guard wall broke and fell, while the front part of the car was badly damaged. According to police, the vehicle was moving at high speed towards Red Road when the driver lost control near the Vijay Dwar.
Police reached the spot immediately after getting information about the accident and detained the driver. The driver sustained minor injuries and is reported to be safe. Police checked CCTV camera footage from Red Road and nearby areas to identify the vehicle. Investigators are trying to find out the exact speed of the vehicle at the time of the crash and whether the driver was drunk. A medical examination of the driver is also being conducted, and police are checking other possible causes of the accident.
Road accidents have happened earlier near the sensitive Red Road and Fort William area. In June, a pool car overturned after a collision in front of Fort William, injuring three school children. Earlier in January, an accident also took place on Red Road during parade rehearsals. Due to these repeated incidents, questions are being raised about traffic safety and the control of speeding vehicles around Red Road and Fort William. Police are currently doing a detailed investigation into Friday morning's accident.
