Kishanganj Health Department Warns Of Malaria In Monsoons
The health department in Kishanganj has issued an alert for malaria and other vector-borne diseases as water logging during the rainy season increases mosquito breeding.
Since January 2026, the district has reported a total of 14 malaria cases, including 12 from Pothia block and two from Kochadhaman block. All these patients have successfully received treatment, and health officials are monitoring affected areas while spreading awareness.
District Official Urges Public Caution
District Magistrate Naveen Kumar has appealed to residents to keep their homes and surroundings clean and prevent water stagnation. He advised that anyone developing a fever should avoid self-medication and instead visit a nearby government health center for immediate testing to prevent the illness from turning severe.
Free Testing Available At Health Centers
Dr. Manzar Alam, the District Vector Borne Disease Control Officer, stated that continuous monitoring is underway across the district. Testing and treatment facilities are available at the Sadar Hospital, PHCs, APHCs, referral hospitals, and other public healthcare facilities. Avinash Roy, the District Vector Borne Consultant, confirmed that malaria tests are completely free at government health centers with sufficient test kits available. Civil Surgeon Dr. Raj Kumar Choudhary advised people to use mosquito nets, wear full-body clothes, and watch out for symptoms like high fever with chills, shivering, sweating, headache, and weakness.
