Kharagpur Traffic Police Launches Drive Against Illegal Parking

The Kharagpur Town Traffic Guard has launched a special drive to clear illegal parking and road encroachments to reduce traffic congestion ahead of Independence Day. This initiative, officially titled the Blacktop Removal Special Campaign, aims to ensure smoother vehicle movement across the city.

Focus on Key Market Areas

Authorities began the enforcement operation at several busy locations, including the SDO More to Jama Masjid road, Bhandari Chowk, and the Golbazar market area. Traffic police removed vehicles parked illegally on the roads and issued strict warnings to drivers of two-wheelers, four-wheelers, autos, and totos. Officials used hand microphones to broadcast warnings, informing the public that occupying the blacktop portion of the road for parking or any other purpose is prohibited.

Action Against Road Encroachments

In addition to parking violations, the police took action against shopkeepers who displayed their goods on the road. The campaign targets businesses that have encroached upon public space, which has contributed to narrowing the streets. According to local reports from Hindusthan Samachar, these obstructions have made it difficult for pedestrians and vehicles to pass through the city's main market hubs, leading to regular traffic jams.

Future Traffic Management Plans

Kharagpur Traffic Guard Officer-in-Charge Sangeet Roy stated that this drive will continue in various parts of the city. The administration intends to maintain consistent action against illegal parking and road encroachments to ensure the city remains free of traffic congestion. Regular monitoring of these areas is planned to uphold traffic discipline and improve overall road safety for all residents.
