Siliguri Kanchanjunga Stadium Mela Ground Becomes Parking Hub

The local administration in Siliguri has started work to convert the Kanchanjunga Stadium Mela Ground into a parking space to address the city's ongoing traffic and vehicle parking issues. Authorities have begun demolishing the boundary walls of the stadium's fairground to facilitate easier vehicle access. This project was initiated following a proposal from the state tourism minister and Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh to reduce congestion in the city.

Wall Demolition and Entry Points

Work to break down the boundary walls began this Saturday to simplify the entry and exit points for vehicles. The modification of these entry and exit gates is a primary step in ensuring that vehicles can move in and out of the new parking area without causing road blocks. This construction is part of a larger plan to manage the increasing number of vehicles in Siliguri and provide a dedicated space for drivers.

Trial Runs for Parking System

Along with the construction work, the administration has started a trial run to test the new parking system. The trial is designed to monitor how vehicles enter, park, and exit the ground to identify any potential problems before the facility is fully opened to the public. By conducting these tests, officials aim to ensure that the parking process remains smooth and does not disrupt the surrounding traffic flow.

Official Inspection Scheduled

State tourism minister Shankar Ghosh is scheduled to visit the site on Sunday to review the progress of the project. During his visit, the minister will inspect the designated parking area and evaluate the effectiveness of the new entry and exit system. This initiative, reported by Hindusthan Samachar, represents the latest administrative effort to improve urban infrastructure in Siliguri.
