Jalpaiguri School Headteacher Assault Triggers High Inquiry

West Bengal school education department has ordered a high-level inquiry into the alleged assault of a headteacher at Jalpaiguri District School. State school education department secretary Binod Kumar directed the district inspector of schools to submit a full report after investigating the sequence of events that led to the incident.

The dispute arose during a special mid-day meal arrangement on Tuesday after a teacher's day program could not be held on Saturday. Some tenth-grade students went to the mid-day meal room to check details, leading to an argument when the headteacher, Dharmachand Barui, allegedly got angry. Students complained about poor food quality and alleged theft of cooking materials, which angered other students in the school.

Students raised slogans and allegedly pushed the headteacher, causing injuries with blood coming from his nose and mouth before police rescued him. The education department stated that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty during the investigation.
