Around 300 retired workers of Jalpaiguri Municipality have not received their pension for the last three months. To demand their pending money, the workers held a meeting with the municipality executive officer Devdulal Patra on Friday.
As the meeting failed to find a solution, the employees warned that they will lock and close the municipality office starting Monday. The Jalpaiguri Retired Employees Committee stated that while current workers get regular salaries, retired staff have to wait for pensions. A similar protest with a lock on the office happened in September, but the administration failed to keep its promise of quick payment. Committee secretary Anjan Banerjee said no other option is left. Executive officer Devdulal Patra refused to comment on the matter.
