Jalpaiguri Municipality Chairman Saikat Chatterjee Resigns

Political crisis is growing in the Trinamool Congress-controlled Jalpaiguri Municipality as Chairman Saikat Chatterjee resigned from his post on Thursday. This decision comes after several councillors, including some from the ruling Trinamool Congress, recently submitted a no-confidence motion against him.

Show Cause Notice Issued by Department

The councillors alleged that the Chairman did not call a meeting on the no-confidence motion within the required time limit. Following this, the state municipal and urban development department issued a show cause notice to the Chairman asking why the current board should not be dissolved and demanded a written reply within three days.

Deepening Crisis for Municipal Board

Saikat Chatterjee submitted his resignation on Thursday following this entire sequence of events. His resignation has further deepened the crisis facing the Trinamool Congress board in the Jalpaiguri Municipality.
