Jalpaiguri municipality board formation remains incomplete despite a court-set deadline as political disputes continue. No Trinamool Congress councillors attended the board formation meeting on Wednesday, leaving the municipality control under an administrator.
Police and central forces secured the municipality building, but no councillors arrived for the scheduled meeting. Instead,
Mamata Banerjee-supporter councillors held a press conference at the party office, claiming support from 17 councillors while only three attended the venue.
Trinamool councillors blamed Bharatiya Janata Party threats for keeping members away from the meeting. Meanwhile,
BJP leaders rejected the allegations and stated that Trinamool lacked the required majority to form a board. Former chairman Saikat Chatterjee also commented on the internal party conflict.
The municipality control remains with administrator Mihir Karmakar following the failed deadline.
This arrangement is expected to continue until the next scheduled municipal elections, leaving residents focused on civic service delivery.
