Lawyers in Jalpaiguri staged a protest on Thursday against the attack on advocate Sayan Banerjee inside the Baruipur court premises.
The protest was organized by the All India Lawyers Union Jalpaiguri branch in front of the main gate of the district court.
Protesters expressed anger over the lack of security for lawyers inside court premises and the culture of throwing eggs. They questioned the delay in taking strict action against the accused involved in the incident.
Last Tuesday, advocate Sayan Banerjee was allegedly targeted with bricks and eggs inside the Baruipur court premises.
Advocates Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya and Subhankar Nag drew the attention of the Calcutta High Court Chief Justice to the security of lawyers. The High Court bench expressed concern over the security arrangements and sought a detailed report of the incident from the Baruipur police and district judge.
