The district recorded 165.60 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours leading up to August 5, which is the highest amount for this monsoon season, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. This heavy downpour has led to flooded streets and water entering homes and shops in various municipal wards.

Continuous rain over the past few days has caused major rivers in the region, including the Teesta and Karala, to swell. These rivers are currently rising rapidly and reaching critical levels, as noted in the latest weather updates.
