Jadavpur University Files Police Complaint Over Vandalism

Jadavpur University administration has filed a written police complaint following incidents of vandalism, arson, and the entry of outsiders on campus. The university also formed a three-member inquiry committee to look into the matter.

Police Complaint and Inquiry Committee

Registrar Salimbux Mondal stated that a complaint was registered at Jadavpur police station based on the vice-chancellor's instructions. All CCTV footage from the campus will be handed over to the police for investigation. The inquiry committee will not include any current university representatives to ensure a fair process.

Details of Campus Vandalism

The administration reported that unknown outsiders entered the campus illegally around midnight on August 20. Flags, posters, and other materials were set on fire near the Arts and Science buildings and the historic Aurobindo Bhavan. Further vandalism occurred the next afternoon, with attempts to damage the university emblem and force entry into hostels.

Teacher Protests and Reactions

The Jadavpur University Teachers Association held a half-day work boycott and staged a sit-in protest in front of Aurobindo Bhavan. Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad denied damaging the emblem and blamed ultra-left and naxal-backed elements. Teacher Rajeshwar Singh also denied the allegations and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incidents.
