Students and university officials held a meeting to discuss the recent violence and vandalism that happened late at night on August 20 at the Jadavpur University campus. During the meeting with the student welfare board, students asked why no police complaint was filed against mathematics professor Buddhadeb Sau even though he was seen in CCTV footage. Students expressed deep concern over outsiders attacking the campus and hostels at night, and they demanded proper safety measures for all students.
According to the students, professor Buddhadeb Sau was seen standing near gate number four in the CCTV footage and talking to members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
Students questioned why the university did not file a complaint against him for allegedly inciting the violence despite having clear proof.
Meanwhile, Jadavpur police station officers visited the campus on Monday to collect the footage from all installed CCTV cameras.
The university administration had already filed a written police complaint on Saturday against the outsiders who attacked the campus.
The Akhil Bharatiya National Educational Federation demanded the setup of a police outpost inside the campus for security.
On the other hand, the left-wing employee union stated that the police outpost should be outside the university boundary and also held a protest march on Monday.
Professor Buddhadeb Sau accused the university registrar of leaking internal information and demanded his arrest, claiming he was falsely trapped in the matter.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad also demanded an investigation by the National Intelligence Agency into broken symbols and anti-national posters found on the campus.
