Independence Day Celebrations Held Across North Bengal

North Bengal celebrated the 80th Independence Day with various events held across the region to mark the occasion. Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh hoisted the national flag at the tourism department office located at Mainak Tourist Lodge in Siliguri. During the event, he paid tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country and extended his greetings to the citizens. The celebrations highlighted the spirit of patriotism and respect for the nation across the region.
Flag Hoisting at Uttarkanya
In a significant development, North Bengal Development Minister Nisith Pramanik hoisted the national flag at Uttarkanya, the mini-secretariat of North Bengal. This marked the first time a minister has performed the flag-hoisting ceremony at this location. Since the inauguration of Uttarkanya in 2014, the ceremony had traditionally been conducted by government officials or the divisional commissioner. This change in tradition signifies a new approach to administrative functions at the mini-secretariat.
Future Plans for North Bengal Secretariat
Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, Minister Nisith Pramanik addressed the media regarding the ongoing changes at Uttarkanya. He noted that ministers, including the Education Minister and Forest Minister, are now providing services to the public directly from this office. Plans are currently in place to establish chambers for ministers from South Bengal to operate from Uttarkanya as well. This initiative is intended to improve administrative accessibility for the people of the region.
Response to Controversial Comments
During the event, Minister Nisith Pramanik also responded to recent public disputes regarding Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. He stated that Netaji is a hero whom every mother in India would be proud to have as a son. He issued a warning that legal action will be taken against those who make offensive remarks against Netaji. The event concluded with a strong emphasis on national unity and the honor of India's historical figures, as reported by Hindusthan Samachar.
