Hundreds of market women in Imphal staged a protest march toward the Western Gate of Kangla to demand justice for six abducted civilians. The demonstration took place beneath the Bir Tikendrajit Road flyover during the ongoing State Assembly session.
Riot-geared state police and central paramilitary forces set up barricades to stop the protesters from entering administrative areas. Protesters pushed against the barricades and chanted slogans questioning the management of security forces.
The protest was triggered by the official dismissal of an eyewitness video on WhatsApp. In the video, a victim's wife alleged that armed perpetrators and local authorities were present during the illegal detention in Kangpokpi. Protesters expressed outrage after official statements called the allegations baseless and transferred the inquiry to central agencies.
