IIT Kharagpur Marks 75 Years of Academic Excellence

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur recently celebrated its 75th foundation day, marking seven decades since its journey began at the historic Hijli Detention Camp. The institute has pledged to contribute significantly to the vision of a developed India through education, research, and social innovation.
Focus on Social Impact and Future Growth
Director Professor Suman Chakraborty stated that the success of the institute will be measured by the positive impact it creates in people's lives. He emphasized that the institute aims to turn knowledge into practical solutions for real-world problems. The institute is focusing on areas like healthcare, affordable technology, and innovation. To support this growth, 123 new faculty members have been appointed, and over 300 research scholars are expected to join in the coming months.
New Initiatives and Campus Facilities
To improve student well-being, the institute is building the Setu Wellness Centre at a cost of 43.38 crore rupees. The campus has also introduced new services like public e-cycle sharing and an AI-based bus tracking system to improve daily transportation. Additionally, the institute is launching new academic programs, including an online undergraduate course in Data Science taught in the Bengali language.
Awards and Recognitions
During the event, the institute honored faculty, staff, and students for their outstanding contributions. Awards were presented for teaching excellence, staff performance, and courageous acts. Employees who have completed 25 years of service at the institute were also recognized for their dedication. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the chairman of ISRO and experts from the NITI Aayog.
