IIEST Shibpur Inaugurates New Hostel for 1160 Students

The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, has officially inaugurated a new modern hostel named Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Hall. This facility is designed to accommodate 1,160 students and aims to enhance the residential infrastructure for the institute's growing academic community.

Features of the New Hostel

The newly constructed hostel is a G+10 storied building equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Starting from the current academic session, male students will be provided accommodation in this hall. The complex also includes a separate block that houses a dining area, indoor recreational facilities, and guest rooms. To promote sustainability, the building features a rooftop solar power plant and an advanced wastewater recycling system.

Inauguration Ceremony Details

Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, attended the event as the chief guest. Other dignitaries present included Tejaswini Ananthkumar, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, and Professor V.M.S.R. Murty, the Director of the institute. The inauguration ceremony began with the formal unveiling of the hall followed by a floral tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee.

Commemorative Stamp Release

During the event, the institute celebrated its 170 years of service in technical education and nation-building. To mark this milestone, Riju Ganguly, Postmaster General of the Department of Posts, Government of India, released a special cover and a special cancellation stamp. The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Registrar CA Biswajit Bhattacharya and the national anthem.
