The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a police constable named Shubhamay Mandal for taking a bribe of one lakh rupees in Howrah. The incident took place at the Nazirganj police outpost under the Sankrail police station. The official was caught red-handed while accepting the money.

Details of the arrest

During the raid by the ACB team, the accused constable tried to throw the bundles of bribe money outside to hide evidence. The team chased him and successfully recovered the entire amount of one lakh rupees. Initially, 50,000 rupees were found in his possession, and the remaining 50,000 rupees were recovered from the spot where he had thrown the packets. Despite his resistance during the arrest, the officials took him into custody.

Action against police personnel

This incident follows another recent arrest by the ACB in Howrah. On Monday, a sub-inspector from the Bantra police station was also arrested for allegedly taking a bribe to suppress a harassment case. The Anti-Corruption Bureau is currently conducting further investigations into these cases. According to reports from Hindusthan Samachar, these back-to-back arrests have caused significant concern within the police department.
