Howrah Police Arrest Man for 50 Lakh Cyber Fraud

Howrah City Police has arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly cheating a person of Rs 50 lakh under the pretext of supplying TMT steel bars. The accused has been identified as Snehashish Manna, a resident of South Mechogram in East Midnapore district.

Details of the Fraud

The victim contacted the accused after finding a mobile number online. The accused posed as a TMT steel broker and promised to supply the materials. The victim transferred Rs 50 lakh as an advance payment to the bank account provided by the accused. However, the steel was never delivered, and the money was not returned.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following a complaint, the cyber police station of Howrah City Police initiated an investigation. With the assistance of the Panskura police, the team arrested Snehashish Manna. Police recovered Rs 20.40 lakh in cash, 17 debit cards, several SIM cards, and an SBI cheque leaf from his possession. Additionally, Rs 25.98 lakh in the suspect's bank account has been frozen following a court order. Seven other individuals have been arrested in connection with this case and are currently in judicial custody.

Howrah City Police stated that they are actively working to track cyber crimes and recover stolen funds.
